Subhumans

The Subhumans were one of the more noticeable bands in the anarcho-punk scene in the UK from 1980–1985, alongside Conflict, Crass, Rudimentary Peni, Flux of Pink Indians, Antisect, etc. With angered intelligent lyrics and music far more diverse than most punk, their attitude was self-searching and strongly DIY; their 5 LPs, 6 EPs and numerous cassettes were released on their own Bluurg records, which itself put out records by other bands (e.g. Instigators) on a no-contract, trust basis. The Subhumans certainly had that British snotty punk sound down pat and also shared the interest in reggae and ska that that permeated much of early punk. As such, Dick, the vocalist, left to join Culture Shock and then rejoined two other Subhumans to form Citizen Fish, both ska-punk bands.
